What do I have to do if I have lost the key file and forget my key password?

If you have forgotten the key password, you can reset it using the key file. If you can no longer find the corresponding key file, disable encryption for new documents. 

Note

  • Use a computer. Log in on the website https://postbox.d-velop.de/. The changes cannot be made in the mobile apps.

  • You cannot use the new key to decrypt documents that were encrypted with the old key.

  • Request the required documents from your provider again.

Disabling encryption – this is how it works 

You must disable encryption for new documents. Instructions can be found in the chapter Reversing encryption. Complete all the steps in the instructions.

Subsequent steps 

Once you have disabled encryption, request your documents from your provider again. You can only open encrypted documents using the key with which they were encrypted. If you no longer have this key or the key password, you will no longer be able to access your documents. d.velop is solely the technical operator of the platform. d.velop Support cannot grant you access to documents or send you documents.

Resetting the key password 

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it. You require the key file to reset the password. You received the key file when you first logged in. If you can no longer find the key file, use one of the other methods. Instructions for resetting the key password can be found in the chapter What should I do if I have forgotten my key password?.
