d.3 workitem view now also with Edge Chromium

Releases & Updates·April 22, 2021

The d.3 smart explorer already uses a Chromium component provided by us to display HTML content in some places, e.g. when displaying search templates or favorites. However, the operating system's "embedded Internet Explorer" is still used to display workflow masks, as some customers can only process workflows with Internet Explorer. The reason for this is that components such as ActiveX were used in the individual programming of the customers' HTML interfaces, which are not supported by other browsers. It is therefore not possible to switch to current browsers without additional effort.

Microsoft initiated the end-of-life process for Internet Explorer some time ago (see https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=000333934&language=en_US&type=1&mode=1), and we have already received the first inquiries from customers who no longer wish to use Internet Explorer.

In response, we have adapted the d.3 workitem viewer to enable operation without Internet Explorer in d.3 smart explorer. From version Current 2021.Q3 Preview 02, the d.3 workitem viewer checks whether the Microsoft component WebView2 is installed on the operating system and uses it instead of Internet Explorer. If this component is not available, it can be obtained from Microsoft (see https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/#download-section). If the WebView2 component is not available on the operating system, Internet Explorer will continue to be used.

If the WebView2 component is installed on the operating system, for example for the use of third-party software, and the customer still needs to use Internet Explorer in the d.3 workitem viewer, there is a technical way to make this possible. Please contact our support for this.

We also assume that the WebView2 component will be installed automatically at some point with an update of Microsoft Chromium Edge.

Further information on WebView2 can be found at https://docs.microsoft.com/de-de/microsoft-edge/webview2/.
